Grand Opening This Saturday

LOS ANGELES, July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- PCL Construction is pleased to announce that it has completed construction of the new Belvedere Aquatic Center in East Los Angeles.  The achievement will be marked by a grand opening celebration on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00am with PCL Construction, LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina, and top officials from the Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Public Works, and members of the community.  The grand opening will be at the Belvedere Aquatic Center at 5099 E. First Street, Los Angeles, CA, 90022.  The $14 million project will provide another safe, family-friendly recreation option in East Los Angeles.

The new Belvedere Aquatic Center built by PCL's Special Projects Division was a design-build project to replace the former pool facilities on this site.  The new facilities include a 9,939 square-foot, Spanish Colonial-style pool building, a new 12,743 square-foot Olympic-size competition pool, a 2,550 square foot lap pool, a 1,110 square-foot splash pool, a 1,100 square-foot senior's pool, three diving boards, shaded seating areas, and an exercise room.  PCL Construction also added a detached storage area, a new parking lot, site retaining walls, access ramps, new fencing, walkways, landscaping, and site lighting.  A local artist, Sonia Romero, was also commissioned to infuse the facility with graphic art that relates to the East Los Angeles community that it serves.  The new facilities allow for easy maintenance, durability, and off-season security.  The project was designed by Steinberg Architects to serve the needs of the growing local community and provide a venue for regional competitive swim meets. Los Angeles County Supervisor, Gloria Molina states, "Hopefully, this $14 million investment will help level the playing field so that Eastside kids can have a fair shot at Olympic gold."

Jack Sample, District Manager for PCL, says, "The Belvedere Aquatic Center will be a wonderful amenity that will be enriching for this community.  It's very rewarding to build a space that will enhance the quality of life for so many people."
